Nancy

Tall she is, raven haired,

And she speaks with laughing words.

Eyes flashing colored bits of meaning,

Freedom clothes her beyond all fetters.

Healthy, animal woman of simple things,

Mystic being seen from my dream.

After Nancy's Death

After April-summer-August,

Finding you were gone.

Then I saw, haunted,

Your luminous eyes,

Raven hair, but when I turned

And looked again...

It wasn't you, and yet

I still can't picture you

As anything but laughter,

And life.
